When I saw her being dragged out of the room, I panicked.  None of the men around her saw me but she definitely did.  Her eyes widened and her jaw went slack.  I began to walk towards her but she shook her head slightly as not to attract attention to the man dragging her.  I almost continued but she gave me her infamous glare, telling me that I’d regret it.  So I stayed.  
Right before they took her around the corner, she flicked her head to the side, telling me to ‘get the hell out’ as she had put it previously.  I nodded and before I turned, she smiled.  Such a sweet expression that I only saw rarely, one that made my eyes soften and my heart to speed and slow with a single beat.
As she was dragged roughly around the corner, I turned, realizing the people that had been coming up the stairs and had made their way up the hallway and were barely fifteen feet away from Ty and me.
I felt her tense her small legs around my shoulders as a young blonde boy came loping up the stairs towards us.  She began shaking as he revealed a blade as sharp as they come.
I turned, needing no more hints and began running the opposite way.  As I came across a left turn, which lead to more stairs, I stopped abruptly, a young man even larger than I, appearing from the hallway.  His shoulders were as broad as a fucking building and his arms, if I were any smaller, could crush me in a single punch.  He sauntered towards me as I back stepped away from him.  I pulled Ty upwards off of my shoulders and tried to set her down safely.  This, unfortunately, wasn’t quick enough.  I grimaced as a solid fist crashed into my side, throwing me off balance.  
I spiraled around as fast as I could, a grotesque scowl on my face.  His eyebrows wrinkled and his nostrils flared, his scarred features glaring back at me.  I threw myself at him, shoulder jutting out towards his chest.  I slammed him against the wall and he crumbled, falling the floor for only a moment.  As he pushed himself up onto one knee, I took advantage of his inconvenience.  With one forceful movement, my boot landed hard up and under his ribs.  I heard a crack and he groaned.  
I stepped back, not wanting the brand of “Cheap shot” or “Sucker punch”.  He stood and huffed loudly, charging towards me.  We only had about five feet of room for him to stampede towards me, his giant size rattling my heart even more.
My adrenaline pumped stridently through my body, a simple step seeming complex and intricate.  I sidestepped him swiftly, his mad dash stopped abruptly by empty air. He turned and jumped towards me, pinning me to a wall with his forearm.  With the meaty limb constricting my air flow, I struggled to be set free.  I braced myself as another stone like punch came straight for me.
Slam! I felt the skin on my cheek bone split open and blood begin running down it.  I struggled more, pulling my leg up in between us and pushing him off with a strong shove.  He stumbled back and I dropped almost flat to the floor, my sight fixating on his wobbling balance.  
I focused on his knee and thrust my foot towards it, a powerful kick hitting its target.  The reaction I wanted caused me to smile.  The man fell to the floor, yelling and clutching his knee cap, which was awkwardly positioned to the right.  
In my momentary glee, I realized that foot steps hadn’t ceased running down the hall.  Boots thundered towards us and I looked over to Ty who had her gaze held on the young boy in front.
That’s him, Fratelli… she spoke to me and I understood.  That was the man who had held her and he was the reason her clothes were cut and doused in red liquid in numerous spots.  I looked around to pick out any escape routes.
To my right, men came towards us; behind me was the stairway which would take hours to find an exit from and to my left? There was a window.  We were on the second floor, about thirty feet from the dangerous ground.  I made the decision and I scooped up Ty, running for the glass that was sure to smart more than a little.
I heard curses and angry howls coming from the hallway as I braced my and the young girl with my shoulder, shattering through the glass.  I winced once as we fell and again as we landed.  I had to roll, holding Ty tightly against the chest, protecting her head with my hands.  
When I regained my balance within a second, I stood and ran, Ty trembling within my grasp and my own mind shaken beyond comprehension.  
I ran, I ran.  I’d never see her again.
